Changelog
Meowse updates itself: open Settings → Updates, or choose Update Meowse from the menu when one is ready.
Fixes
- Meowse Settings shows the Meowse icon in Activity Monitor instead of a blank one.
What’s new
- Lighter on memory. Settings now runs as its own small process that quits when you close the window, so everything it loads goes back to your Mac. Meowse stays at about 12 MB, where it used to keep 30–45 MB after Settings had been open.
- Meowse also starts lighter: its menu is built the first time you open it.
What’s new
- Settings → General: the Scroll engine status now says Idle (trackpad) or Idle (Magic Mouse), and the menu bar icon dims while Meowse is idle.
- The menu bar shows an update item only when an update is available.
Fixes
- Scrolling the wheel right after the trackpad: Finder no longer freezes, Chrome and other Chromium-based apps keep scrolling, and the first tick no longer goes twice as far.
- A quick wheel tick over another app no longer carries over the previous app’s glide.
Efficiency and security
- Clicks no longer pass through Meowse unless a glide is in progress.
- Updates must be signed with Meowse’s Developer ID and notarized by Apple before they install.
What’s new
- Settings → General: the Scroll engine status now shows Idle while you scroll with a trackpad or Magic Mouse, which already scroll smoothly on their own, and Running when you scroll a mouse wheel. It replaces the separate “Scrolling with” row from 1.1.4.
What’s new
- Settings → General now shows what you’re scrolling with: a mouse wheel, which Meowse smooths, or a trackpad or Magic Mouse, which it leaves alone. It updates as you switch.
Meowse now offers to move itself to Applications when opened from Downloads, where it can’t update itself. Releases are now signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
What’s fixed
- Enable scroll enhancements in Settings → Scrolling can be turned back on after you turn it off. It used to grey itself out, so the only way back was the menu.
What’s new
- Clearer names. Settings → Scrolling now has Scroll distance and Smoothness.
- A longer, smoother glide by default: 100 pt scroll distance and 0.5 s smoothness.
Your current settings are kept. To use the new defaults, choose Restore Defaults in Settings → General.
What’s new
- A new glide. Each notch scrolls a set distance, 80 pt by default, and faster spins scroll farther. Settings → Scrolling has two clear controls: Distance per notch and Glide time.
- Full distance at any refresh rate. Glides move in whole points, so every scroll event moves the page, with 41% fewer events than one per frame.
- Hotkeys work with either key. Hold Option to scroll faster (3×), Shift to scroll sideways, or Command to scroll without smoothing.
- Correct deltas for older apps, and glides always close their gesture.
- Keep Awake ends on time after the Mac sleeps.
Security
- Releases carry a secure timestamp, so updates keep verifying after the signing certificate expires.
- Turning off automatic update checks takes effect immediately.
- The updater rejects archives that contain links, and a background check can’t interrupt an install.
- Settings edited by hand are kept within valid ranges.
Updating from 1.0: scrolling distance, glide and hotkey settings start from the new defaults. Everything else carries over.
Every version, with its download, is on GitHub.
